The Electricity Storage Association is an international trade association established to foster development and commercialization of energy storage technologies. Our mission is to promote the development and commercialization of competitive and reliable energy storage delivery systems for use by electricity suppliers and their customers.
At the Silicon Valley Energy Storage Symposium and Technology Showcase on January 20 in Sunnyvale, CA about 100 people attended to discuss energy storage technologies and the challenges we face.
Organized by Joint Venture of Silicon Valley, the symposium brought together key public officials, private sector leaders, academia and research participants whom engage in a discussion of the future of energy storage. Storage technologies are an important element of the smart grid. In his keynote address, Brad Roberts presented ‘Electricity storage – Optimizing the use of renewable energy’.

Most importantly, Senator Wyden gave the DOE 60 days to produce a “blueprint” of its plans for energy storage after the current stimulus program is complete. He wants the momentum created by the stimulus to continue and not allow DOE to “wait and see what happens” as a result of the stimulus. Senator Wyden pressed FERC Chairman Wellinghof to make storage a higher priority in rule making by FERC. Senator Udall made a point to FERC that storage needs to be considered its own asset class just like T&D and Generation.
